The University spent $941,000 to recruit varsity athletes in 2006–07, the largest RECRUITING BUDGET in NCAA Division I-AA, according to a Chronicle of Higher Education report published in August. Princeton increased its budget 234 percent over a 10-year period, vaulting from lowest in the Ivy League to highest. The eight Ivy institutions were Division I-AA’s top eight recruiting spenders in 2006-07.

Princeton placed 13th in a Sports Illustrated ranking of the nation’s TOP COLLEGIATE ATHLETICS PROGRAMS in 2007–08. The SI.com point system rewarded schools for national titles, national rankings, and conference championships in 22 sports. The Tigers won nine Ivy League titles last year, including eight in sports that counted in the rankings.

Los Angeles Riptide attackman JESSE HUBBARD ’98 scored his 240th professional goal during a July 26 win over the Philadelphia Barrage, breaking the Major League Lacrosse career record.

Bargain blue chips. Figure at only $2,000 each, PU can add 500 athletes to a class; that means about 100 for football, and 400 for the rest. That makes me blue.
