This book, which originated as the author’s Princeton thesis, analyzes Pakistani domestic politics and the Kashmir dispute in the context of international-relations theory by focusing on Pakistan’s national ideology and the evolution of civilian-military relations since the country’s formation. Bahl, an investment banker in New York, was awarded the Richard Ullman Prize for best thesis on American foreign policy in the Woodrow Wilson School for his work on South Asia.
