John N. Harman Jr. of Boulder City, Nev., died after a brief illness Sept. 28, 2007. He was 95.
He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry, and was elected to Sigma Xi. In 1939 he married Helen Snyder. His lifelong passions were writing, photography, skiing, boating, beer, and especially collies.
Joining the Army’s 1st Signal Photographic Company in January, John served as commanding officer of the 161st Signal Photo-
graphic Company in the South Pacific. Decorated with the Bronze Star and numerous other medals, he rose to the rank of lieutenant colonel.
In 1946, John relocated to Southern California and founded the Drewry Photocolor Corp. During this time he and Helen raised three sons, John III ’62, Paul, and Mark. In 1975, more than a year after Helen’s untimely death, he fell in love with and married a longtime family friend, Jeannie Forward. In 1978, John retired from his business and moved to Boulder City.
John always will be remembered for his remarkable caring intelligence, his dignity, his joyous sense of humor, and his profound humility. He inspired us all by always exemplifying the best in honor, character, and style throughout his life.
