He came from Roselle, N.J., the son of Edgar M. Gibby 1899 and Janet G. Brown. He attended Pingry and The Hill School. Later he became Pingry’s only life trustee. At Princeton he was a member of Triangle Club and Quadrangle. He served in the field artillery in Europe and separated as a captain. His business career was with Desks Inc., an office-furniture business in New York.

Bob married Anne Willard in 1940. Bob and Anne inspired interest in the life of George Washington by providing audios, arranging informational gatherings, developing a school curriculum, and delivering lectures anywhere at any time. They put together the famous Willard-Budd Collection of etchings, lithographs, prints, and pictures at Washington’s home at Mount Vernon.

Bob conceived and brought to fruition the Washington Memorial Garden as a gift to Princeton from our class.

Bob was predeceased by Anne, as well as a brother, a sister, and two half-sisters, one of whom was Elizabeth “Liz” Osborne, longtime leader of class associates and wife of William H. Osborne ’50. Survivors include Bob’s four children, Robert Jr., Susan Gillim, Alan, and James; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. To them we extend sincere condolences.
