Playwright NOAH HAIDLE ’01’s latest work, Saturn Returns, makes its New York debut at Lincoln Center’s Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater this fall. The play, directed by Nicholas Martin, opens Nov. 10, and runs through Jan. 4. The main character, a radiologist named Gustin, is depicted at the ages of 28, 58, and 88 by three different actors. The play explores Gustin’s relationship with his wife, his daughter, and his nurse. Haidle, whose works include Rag and Bone, Persephone, and A Long History of Neglect, taught an introductory course on playwriting at Princeton last spring.
OSCAR BETTISON GS, who will complete his doctorate in musical composition this fall, has been selected by Boosey and Hawkes Inc., a classical-music publishing company, for its new sponsorship program for emerging composers. Bettison says his music explores “the tension between elements of classical music and rock music.” He also brings outside elements into the concert hall, by making percussion instruments out of scrap metal, for example. His piece “I Believe I’m Sinking Down” will be performed at a Nov. 18 concert in Fine Hall’s Taplin Auditorium.
