I would like to pass on my sincerest apologies to everyone associated with Princeton University for the dishonorable treatment you received while visiting The Citadel campus for the football game between our two schools.

The actions of the individual cadets, alumni, and Citadel fans who participated in any way are absolutely inexcusable, both on our campus and during the football game. There is no reason whatsoever for a visiting university to expect to be treated so poorly, and please do not be influenced by any local media report or journalistic account that may portray support for their actions as being from a majority of Citadel alumni. That is simply not the case, and should not be used to stereotype alumni from The Citadel.

Bullies are cowards by their very nature; it is, in fact, their defining characteristic, and is why you never have, nor will you ever, meet a brave woman or a brave man who is concurrently a bully. They will take opportunities to use relatively insignificant events such as a football game between two schools as a very poor and an extremely transparent excuse to discard their self-control, and act in an unacceptable manner. It is the clearest demonstration of the sincerity with which they, as individuals, vow to remain honorable in all respects. Through their actions, they define for all of us the word “pretentious” in the most despicable manner possible.

Please do not be swayed by their poor judgment into thinking that all, or even a majority, of Citadel alumni are from their camp. They acted impulsively, dishonorably, disrespectfully, and definitely in a manner which does not reflect the ideals of The Citadel.

Once again, please accept my sincerest apologies, and we look forward to visiting your fine campus next fall.
