Pete died unexpectedly July 7, 2008, at his home in Rotterdam, N.Y. He was 74.
Pete was born in Albany to Elizabeth Willoughby Wells and Warren M. Wells. He graduated from Albany Academy for Boys in 1952, then went on to Princeton, where he roomed with Wendell “Wendy” Inhoffer his junior and senior years. Wendy, in describing that time, said “two (years) with Peter redefined tranquility, all within the confines of 444 Witherspoon Hall.”
Pete majored in civil engineering and was a member of Terrace Club. After Princeton, he went to Union College, earning a master’s degree in teaching in 1964. He became a mathematics teacher at Albany Academy, where he remained until retirement.
Pete was predeceased by his wife, Joan Walmsley Wells, in 2002. He is survived by a niece, Lydia Rieger. Pete will be missed.
