Guido Sohne died May 2, 2008, in Nairobi, Kenya.

A computer-science major, Guido founded his own firms, Webstar Internet in 1998 and sohne.net in 2001, in Accra, Ghana. He was a founding and council member of FOSSFA (Free and Open Source Software Foundation for Africa), an editorial board member of First Monday (the largest peer-reviewed journal on the Internet), and the 2004 Ghana expert for the World Summit Awards. Guido made a huge contribution to technological advances in his home country of Ghana and in Africa as a whole.

He is survived by his parents, William and Genevieve; two sisters, Sandra and Estelle; and his nephew, Liam.

There is an alumni-led effort to raise $250,000 to endow a memorial fund in Guido’s name that will annually bring an African student to Princeton for six months of undergraduate or graduate study.
