At Princeton, Rod roomed all four years with his brother, Steve McClave, who entered with our class and finished in the Class of 1937. Steve died a few years ago, and Rod left us Aug. 10, 2008. Rod was living in Oakland, Calif., his hometown for several years.

Rod majored in civil engineering and was in Tiger Inn. He played freshman football and baseball and was on the varsity football squad for two years.

After graduation, Rod was employed as an engineer by the American Brake Shoe Co. In 1942 he joined the Navy’s Civil Engineering Corps. In 1945 he was one of a select few in Pearl Harbor drawing plans for our expected landing in Japan.

After the war, Rod moved to Berkeley, Calif., where he worked for Fidelity Mutual Life Insurance Co. until his retirement. His assistance regarding personal finances was invaluable.

In 1943, Rod married Mary Ford Kelly, who died 10 years ago. He is survived by a son, Ross R.; a daughter, Ford S.; a brother, James C. ’50; and four grandchildren. We regret the loss of this total gentleman and devoted Princetonian.
