Bill entered Princeton from Gilman School in Baltimore, and after service with the Navy as a Japanese-language translator, he received a degree in classics from Princeton in 1947. Bill worked in finance for the New York Central Railroad for some years, and then became a stock analyst.

His avocations were genealogy and languages. In genealogy, he concentrated on the Hudson family history and the Irish townlands of Kilbaha and Bunagasthastc. His many volumes will be shipped to the Listowel Library in County Kerry, Ireland. Bill’s extensive and unique language books and name-origin books make up the largest collections of their kind in Florida, and will be donated to the Seminary Library in Palm Beach.

Bill married his first wife, Florence Lowe, in 1970; after her death he married Claudia Wampole, who survives him, as do his brother, Paul ’47, and a sister, Carroll Swarm. The class expresses sympathy to the family.
