Doug Martin died of lung cancer Jan. 28, 2009, at his home in Newtown, Conn.  

He was born in Roanoke, Va., and graduated from South Kent School. At Princeton, he was a history major, a member of Dial Lodge, and a participant in many campus activities.  

After graduation, he worked at Bridgeport City Trust for 20 years and subsequently another 20 years as manager of the Southbury Branch of Newtown Savings Bank. He also served as a trustee of the Ridley Foundation in New York City and was active in the United Way.  

A talented poet, extensive reader, avid bird watcher, gardener, singer, and tennis player, Doug loved to dance and listen to all kinds of music. A memorial service was conducted Feb. 3 at Newtown Congregational Church, where he was a member.  

Doug’s wife of 49 years, Joy, predeceased him. The class extends its condolences to his daughter, Katherine; and his siblings, Richard, John, and Sarah.
