He married Margaret “Peg” Rode in 1951 while beginning a long career with the Campbell Soup Co. He started by selling products to supermarkets and finished as a manager of the company’s field forces and employee relations.

Throughout this period, and until his death, he and Peg lived happily in Mullica Hill, N.J., where Fletch served his church, the YMCA, and other organizations.

In our 25th yearbook, Fletch expressed the hope that “all of us will come to know each other better and love each other more.” Later he reported that he had, indeed, broadened and deepened his ’47 friendships, and felt even closer to our class.

Before our 50th, he suffered from a spinal disease soon compounded by an operation to remove a spinal tumor. Thanks to the loving care of “St. Peg,” he attended that reunion in a wheelchair, saying, “I am battered but my sense of well-being is good” — as were his hopes for a better world.

Fletch died Sept. 9, 2008. Celebrating this wonderful classmate, we send heartfelt best wishes to Peg and their daughter, Margaret.
