WOMEN’S SWIMMING placed 18th at the NCAA Championships in College Station, Texas, March 19–21, despite qualifying only two competitors for the meet. All-American swimmer Alicia Aemisegger ’10, left, captured 38 of Princeton’s 44 team points, finishing third in the 1,650-yard freestyle, fourth in the 400-yard individual medley, and 10th in the 500-yard freestyle. Diver Katie Giarra ’09 placed 11th in the three-meter diving competition and also was named an All-American.
In MEN’S SWIMMING, Doug Lennox ’09, Dan Eckel ’09, and the 400-yard freestyle relay team of Lennox, Mike Carter ’09, Colin Cordes ’12, and Jon Hartmann ’10 earned honorable mention All-America honors at the NCAA Championships in College Station March 26–28. Princeton placed 23rd in the team standings.
WOMEN’S LACROSSE improved to 8–1 and 2–0 in Ivy League play with wins over Cornell (15–8, March 28) and Columbia (15–5, April 1).
SOFTBALL split its first two Ivy doubleheaders against Yale and Brown March 28 and 29. Jamie Lettire ’10 pitched complete games in both Princeton wins and hit a home run against Brown.
BASEBALL dropped three of its first four Ivy games in doubleheaders against Yale and Brown March 28 and 29. A seven-run Princeton rally late in the second game against Yale gave the Tigers their lone win for the weekend.
MEN’S and WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL coach Glenn Nelson announced that he will retire at the end of the men’s season this spring after 31 years at Princeton, including 28 as a head coach. Nelson’s teams have won 11 Ivy titles in women’s volleyball and, on the men’s side, one Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association crown. In 1997–98, he became the only coach in history to lead both men’s and women’s volleyball teams to the NCAA Championships in the same year.
