Charles was born in Santo Domingo and prepared for Princeton at Montclair (N.J.) High School. He left college in February of our sophomore year. He died May 5, 2007, presumably in Houston, our last known address for him.

Charles’ family was all Princeton. His grandfather was in the Class of 1869; his father was in 1905; and his two brothers, both deceased, were Spencer ’36, who graduated with us, and Whitman ’39.

Charles started working in 1934 as a floor sweeper for Corn Products Refining Co., later CPC International Inc., and retired as a regional manager in 1972. In 1940, he earned a degree from Fordham Law School.

There was time out for six years of active duty during World War II and Korea, starting as a seaman. He became a captain in the Navy Reserve in 1961.

In our 50-year book, Charles wrote proudly of the happiness he had enjoyed with his family. It consisted of his wife, Elizabeth Wells; four daughters, Sally Wells Hartline, Mary Whitman Willborn, Susan Dallas, and Nancy Coryell; and five grandchildren. We have no record, however, of their current whereabouts or of other family.

We regret the loss of this man whose time with us was all too short.
