The times were heady with change and protests were the order of the day when University photographer Bob Matthews snapped this shrouded student at Princeton’s 1971 Commencement. The Class of 1971 dedicated its Nassau Herald “in memory of those students who died at Kent State University and Jackson State College” — deaths that followed the 1970 U.S. invasion of Cambodia, which precipitated student strikes on college campuses nationwide.
