For the second straight year, Princeton women’s lacrosse traveled to Northwestern for an NCAA quarterfinal game — and for the second straight year, the Wildcats ended the Tigers’ season.

This year’s game, played May 16, started well for Northwestern, which surged ahead 5–1 in the first 13 minutes. Princeton’s Lizzy Drumm ’11 scored three straight goals, cutting the lead to 5–4, but Northwestern rebounded and led 8–5 at halftime. In the second half, the Wildcats netted five early goals and never looked back, cruising to a 16–9 victory.

Princeton (14–4) opened the NCAA tournament with a dominant 15–9 win over Georgetown May 10. The Tigers were proficient on both ends of the field. Kristin Schwab ’09 had a team-high five goals. Goalie Erin Tochihara ’11 made eight saves, and the Princeton defense held the Hoyas scoreless for the first 26:48 of the second half.

The team’s senior class included Holly McGarvie, the Ivy League Player of
the Year, who led the team with 57 points, and high-scoring midfielders Schwab and Christine Casaceli. Defender Marie McKenna ’09 joined McGarvie on the All-Ivy first team, and midfielder Katie Cox ’09 was on the All-Ivy second team.
