VICTOR BRUCE, a lecturer emeritus in biology who researched the genetic basis of circadian rhythms, died May 29 in Princeton. He was 88. Bruce joined the biological sciences department in 1956. He studied a one-celled form of green algae to determine what controlled the organism’s biological clock. He retired in 1982.
EMORY ELLIOTT, a member of the English department faculty for 17 years who left Princeton for the University of California at Riverside in 1989, died of a heart attack March 31 in Riverside, Calif. He was 66. The author of more than a dozen books, Elliott served as chairman of the American Studies program and later of the English department, and he was the first master of Butler College.
