Pete died April 5, 2009, at his Groton, Mass., home.
He prepared at Pomfret School before entering the Class of 1940 at Princeton. In 1941, he was inducted into the Army. After Officer Candidate School, he served with the mounted cavalry at Fort Devens, Mass. While in the European theater, he was a captain in the Coast Artillery during the heavy shelling of Antwerp and as a result was awarded the Bronze Star.
After the war, Pete attended Boston University Law School, earning a law degree in 1951. Starting his career in 1952 at Badger, Pratt, Doyle & Badger, he became a partner in 1953 and managing partner in 1976, during which time the firm also included the name of Cole. For 30 years, Pete also served as Groton’s town counsel.
In our 25th yearbook, Pete listed his interests as hunting, fishing, mountain climbing, gardening, and photography.
He married Mary Ann Delaney of Newton, Mass., in 1958. They had no children. She died in 2002. He also was predeceased by his only brother, Malton Douglas Cole.
