He was in the Army’s 117th Cavalry from 1941 to 1946, serving in North Africa, Italy, and France. At Princeton he majored in biology and roomed with John R. Kennedy before marrying. He and his first wife, Blanche Poin- dexter, had two children, Richard and Danza, and moved after his graduation to California, where he attended grad school at USC.
Bud had a long and varied career, working first with Douglas Aircraft and Huntington Instruments and then from 1953 to 1956 doing research for the Scripps Institute of Oceanography in biology. He then joined Convair, where he worked on research and development testing of the Atlas missile. In 1961 he moved to Palo Alto, where he was an aerospace engineer for Lockheed, a medical technologist at the VA Medical Center, and a physiology research assistant at Stanford University.
Bud died Oct. 10, 2008. He is survived by his wife, Judy; his son, Richard *91; stepdaughter Laurie; three grandchildren; his brother, Dave; and sisters Betty Bann and Anne Luley. His daughter Danza predeceased him. Donations in his memory may be made to the Nature Conservancy in Arlington, Va.
