Pops was raised in Buford, Ga., and spent his high school years in Merion, Pa. Among his relatives who attended Princeton was William Booth ’21. At Princeton, Pops majored in politics, was a member of the choir and Charter Club, and was manager of the Glee Club.

During World War II, Pops served with the Army in the Philippines and Japan as a major with the Office of the Inspector General. Pops’ original career was in the field of cotton brokerage and buying. Later he was an investment broker with the Robinson Humphrey Co.

His outgoing personality and love of tennis and music had him directing church choirs and serving on Atlanta-area boards. He also served as our Annual Giving chairman and class agent.

Pops was predeceased by his first wife, Jeanette, and his son, Lawson Jr. ’69. He is survived by his wife, Camille; daughters Lucille Whitman and Jeanette Howell; sons John and Richard; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; stepchildren Camille and Robert McDuffie and Andrew and Gretchen Taylor; and two step-grandchildren. His classmates extend deep sympathies to them all.
