During World War II, Ted commanded a subchaser in the Atlantic as lieutenant commander. He was recalled to active duty for the Korean conflict and was deactivated in 1953 as a commander. He continued on active reserve into the 1960s.
Between two tours of duty, he graduated from Columbia Law School and was admitted to the New York State bar. Ted joined the Savings Bank Life Insurance Fund and had a long and successful career, culminating with serving as president and CEO in 1964. He retired in 1983.
A collector and restorer of classic 1930s automobiles, Ted owned a Duesenberg, Pierce Arrow, Rolls Royce, Bentley, and several Packards. He was an avid sailor, competing with his L-16, Fuller Brush, in many races and regattas, sailing out of Indian Harbor Yacht Club in Greenwich. He was a member of the U.S. Croquet Association and the University Glee Club of New York.
Ted is survived by his friend and caregiver, Dawn Spradlin; descendants of his half-cousin, John Moffat; and his dog, Bosco.
