Arriving at Princeton from Cambria High School in Ebensburg, Pa., Joe specialized in biology and took his meals at Cannon Club with roommates Marty Mayer, Cal Perrine, and Bob Unger. He went out for football for three years until an injury sidelined him, but maintained his gridiron interest as a team spotter in Palmer Stadium’s press box.

Joe graduated from the University of Pittsburgh Medical School, interned with the Air Force in Iwo Jima and Tokyo, and completed his residency in Los Angeles.

He was dating Hollywood actress Ruta Lee when he met actress and vocalist Jonell McQuaig, who had performed at New York City’s Copacabana and London’s Palladium. Joe figuratively was swept off his feet. Jonell was smitten with Joe’s gentle ways and “his dashing James Bond good looks.” They were married in 1969, and when they attended our 25th reunion, she was pleased to meet many of his classmates. He continued his successful medical practice until illness forced his retirement.

We say goodbye to Joe, who has gone on to another life.
