Walt began a successful career with Mechanical Handling Systems, helping to design and market conveyer belts for firms ranging from GM to chicken-processing plants. He retired after 19 years and moved to Beaufort, N.C., where he and Cynthia enjoyed a happy and busy life. Walt served many civic organizations, notably the Beaufort Historical Society.

Larry Lewis ’45 fondly remembers Walt as “a guy who had a wealth of friends and a wonderful sense of humor,” and as a person who “set and lived by high standards.” Other friends have remembered him for “consideration of others” and as “a consummate gentlemen.” Cynthia says Walt “had many fond memories of Princeton” and the “cherished friends” he enjoyed when there.

Walt died Oct. 19, 2008. We send our warmest wishes to Cynthia, their three children, and four grandchildren, who were so much a part of Walt’s happy life.
