(Congregation Sha’ar Zahav) The world’s first LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) Jewish prayer book, Siddur Sha’ar Zahav adapts the traditional Hebrew liturgy to be egalitarian and LGBT-normative. The book contains new English translations as well as hundreds of new essays, prayers, and poems that speak to progressive Jews. It includes services for weekdays, Friday nights, Saturdays, and all Jewish holidays, in addition to material for everyday life occasions. Tyler is a member of Congregation Sha’ar Zahav, a largely LGBT Reform synagogue in San Francisco. As chair and co-editor of the project, he worked with members of the congregation to write material, translate texts, design the book, review submissions, create artwork, and edit the final content.
