He prepared at Santa Barbara School and Culver Military Academy, and followed his father, Gordon Forbes 1905, and uncle, Howell Forbes ’15, to Princeton. Griswold Forbes ’41 was his cousin.

At Princeton, Gordon majored in English. He was on the football, track, and wrestling teams and was a member of Elm Club.

The Navy and aircraft lured him to Pensacola, Fla., where he became a Navy pilot during World War II, retiring as a lieutenant commander.

Back in Colorado after the war, Gordon and a partner started their own aviation business. This was followed by 10 years working for American Airlines. Along the way, our talented classmate authored several books and co-founded a jazz band in which he played trumpet.

Gordon is survived by Greta, nine children, 19 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. To them all, his classmates offer their deep sympathies.
