In 1954, Art met “B.J.” (Elizabeth June Hawken) in New York at a Yale–Princeton football party and married her soon after. They had three sons.

Art played lacrosse at Princeton and remained an enthusiastic lover of sports. When the family lived in Birmingham, Mich., he coached a Little League team and served on the state’s Little League board of directors. Golf, however, was his great passion, and he was an accomplished player.

Art was raised in a Princeton family. His dad, Francis, was a loyal member of 1912, and Art was, as BJ puts it, “a true-blue tiger.”

Art put the joys of family above all. Late in his life, their sons produced four youngsters who brightened his last years.

He died Dec. 5, 2008. To B.J. and their cherished family, we send our warm wishes.
