A native of New Brunswick, N.J., and product of New Brunswick High School, Fred majored in the American Civilization Program at Princeton, was active in the Pre-Law Society, joined Whig-Clio, swam on the varsity team, and ate at Dial Lodge.

With a law degree from Duke and an M.B.A. from Rutgers, Fred began a solo private law practice in 1963. In 1971 he became judge of the East Brunswick Municipal Court. He was involved in supervising statewide educational programs for municipal judges and served as chairman of the New Jersey Supreme Court Committee on Municipal Courts and president of his county municipal judges’ association.

Fred combined a lifelong interest in sports with a passion for travel, visiting 111 countries. He attended summer Olympic games, Wimbledon, the Royal Henley Regatta, the Masters, world championship swimming and track and field events, and major European soccer matches. He circumnavigated the globe with P&O Cruises, and traveled almost from pole to pole with trips to South Africa and Iceland.

Retiring from the bench in 1986, Fred moved to Pompano Beach, Fla. His parents and siblings predeceased him, and he never married.
