(Center Street) Tennessee doctor and former Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist describes his life of service — from establishing a multidisciplinary transplant center at Vanderbilt University Medical Center to guiding national politics from Congress. Among the other experiences he relates are the story of how he convinced Princeton University officials to keep ROTC on campus as a sophomore in 1972, an account of how he performed emergency surgery on General David Petraeus *87 after an accidental shooting in 1991, and the story of his 1998 humanitarian foray into Sudan to bring medical supplies and care to its people. Frist was elected to the U.S. Senate in 1994 and elected Senate majority leader in 2003. He is a world-renowned heart surgeon and an active supporter of global humanitarian relief efforts.
