George Van De Weghe died of respiratory failure Nov. 28, 2009, in San Diego.

George prepared for Princeton at Blair Academy, where he was captain of its swimming team. At Princeton, he was a member of the varsity swimming team and Cap and Gown Club. He left in his junior year to join the Navy and became a carrier-jet pilot on the Coral Sea. He met his future wife, Mary Rose Heintz, while he was stationed in Jacksonville, Fla. After a four-year tour of duty, he returned to Princeton and graduated cum laude in economics.

Most of his career focused on telecommunications and computers. Toward the end of his career, he and his wife ran a home health-care agency in Hilton Head, S.C.

A loving father and devoted husband, George is survived by Mary Rose, his wife of 51 years; and their children, Meg, Bill ’83, Tom, and Jerry. The class sends condolences to them in their loss.
