During World War II, Bill served in the Merchant Marine, voyaging through troubled waters to ports in Europe, Asia, and Africa.

Returning to hectic postwar Princeton, he married Christie in 1948 (his senior year), the sister of our classmate Al “Cliff” Cornish. Upon graduation, Bill worked for a New York accounting firm, pursued evening studies at NYU, and became a full-fledged and very successful CPA, providing services to many companies. He also served for a stint as treasurer of the Overseas Private Investment Corp., an arm of USAID.

In the course of his career he became a director of a number of printing companies and developed a special interest in that industry, taking “great satisfaction” that he had “helped small companies grow, provide more jobs, and prosper.”

Bill and Christie enjoyed life in Owings Mills, Md. He was a devoted trout fisherman and a longtime board member of the Maryland Chapter of Trout Unlimited — enjoying its meetings and happily sharing whoppers with fellow fly-casters. He was also a dedicated member of his church and a loyal classmate.

Bill died Sept. 24, 2009.

We send our sympathy to Christie, their two beloved sons, and two grandchildren.
