Jack was born May 19, 1927, in Philadelphia, the son of John Biggs Jr. ’18, grandson of John Biggs 1877, and a descendant of a founder of the College of New Jersey.

During World War II, Jack enlisted in the Army, returning to graduate from Wilming-

ton (Del.) Friends School. At Princeton he was an English major, worked on the Nassau Lit, was a member of the pre-law society and Cloister Inn, and enrolled in ROTC. His roommates included Henry Bird, Andy Davlin, Dave Donahower, Gus Fleischman, and Ben Weems. After graduation he served as an artillery officer in Korea with the 8th Army.

In 1956, Jack graduated from Harvard Law School and returned to Wilmington, where he became active in Delaware politics, ran for attorney general, and practiced law until his retirement in 1988. He was a member of the Wilmington Club, the Vicmead, the Society of Colonial Wars, and the Princeton Club of New York.

Jack and Ann Busch Atwood were married Sept. 6, 1958. He died of a stroke March 30, 2009, in Wilmington. He is survived by Ann; their children, Jane Sanger, Anna Massey Biggs, and John; six grandchildren; his brother, Charles; and his sister, Anna Pierce.
