James Forman died unexpectedly from cardiac arrest Nov. 11, 2009.

Born on Long Island, he graduated from St. Paul’s School in Garden City. He majored in psychology at Princeton and was a member of Terrace Club. After graduation, he completed Columbia University Law School in 1957. Although he graduated from law school, he practiced law only until he became a successful writer. He had a passion for history and photography and was an avid collector. Jay enjoyed a lifelong writing career and produced 45 published books, many translated into several languages. He wrote historical novels and adult fiction primarily centered on the theme of what young people do when confronted with moral dilemmas in perilous times. Jay is survived by his wife of 53 years, Marcia. The class extends its condolences to her in her loss.
