Tom died Dec. 20, 2009, in Berryville, Va., as a result of a heart attack. He was 63.

Tom graduated from Springbrook High School in Silver Spring, Md., where he was a yearbook editor, cross country runner, and class officer. At Princeton, he majored in politics, ate at Cloister, rowed freshman lightweight crew, and was in NROTC.

Upon graduation he served on submarines and was discharged as a lieutenant. He earned a law degree from Georgetown and briefly practiced law in the District of Columbia, specializing in energy regulation. Tom then moved to Clarke County, Va., where he worked as an independent computer programmer and a freelance journalist. An extraordinarily moving piece he wrote, titled “. . . and God will make him a cake,” appeared in the winter 2007 issue of Human Life Review.

Tom was passionate about public policy, producing a number of monographs of state and local interest. At the time of his death he was chairman of the Clarke County Republican party.

Tom is survived by his wife of 37 years, Susan Margaret Nolan; daughters Meg Roque and Katie; sons Michael and Tim; a sister, Linda; and six grandchildren. An infant grandson, Finbar William Roque, predeceased him. To Susan and all the family, the class extends its deepest condolences.
