Harry was born Aug. 8, 1929, in New York, the son of James Fearon and Ethel Schmelzel Brown.
He attended Allen-Stevenson and Collegiate and graduated from Choate. At Princeton he majored in psychology and belonged to Campus Club. During the Korean War he served as an electronics officer aboard the USS Philippine Sea.
Harry married Caroline Lowe Oct. 14, 1960, in Cookeville, Tenn. For almost 50 years they lived in New York, where they raised their children, and Harry at one time owned his own investment firm, Brown, Hague & Renwick.
He belonged to the St. Nicholas Society, the Union Club, University Club of New York, and the Society of Colonial Wars. He was an avid squash and tennis player and enjoyed photography and working with electronics.
Harry died Feb. 26, 2009, and was buried with military honors in Cookeville.
He is survived by Caroline; their daughters Caroline Stefaniak and Alice; son James Fearon Brown II; sister Louise, widow of Sharon Clay Risk ’43; brother Robert; nieces Barbara Risk de Boinville ’74 and Nancy Bell Rollings ’74; nephew Clay Risk, ’78; and grandchildren Henry, Isabella, and Juliana. His brother James Fearon Brown Jr. ’45 predeceased him.
