Donald Bedard died April 7, 2010, in Wilmington, Del., after a long illness. He was 88.

Born in Schenectady, N.Y., Donald grew up in Springfield, Mass. A history major at Princeton, he left in January 1943 for Army service and remained in the service until 1953, when he ended his active duty as an Air Force lieutenant colonel. He returned to Princeton to earn a bachelor’s degree in 1955 and then a master’s degree in public affairs from the Woodrow Wilson School in 1956. As a sophomore and junior he roomed with Hugh Charles Hoffman at 15 Lower Pyne.

Donald joined DuPont in its textile fibers division, working for the firm in Wilmington; Frankfurt, Germany; and Geneva, Switzerland, until his retirement in 1986. He remained in the Air Force Reserve until 1971.
After his retirement from DuPont, he founded Clovis Inc., a professional translation-services company, with his wife, Lydia. Besides Lydia, he is survived by three daughters and four grandsons.

Donald will be buried in Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia in a private service in August.
