Archibald Fletcher died May 7, 2010. In his later years, he lived in Seattle and Duarte, Calif.
Archie prepared for Princeton at the Pyeng Yang Foreign School in Korea. At Princeton he graduated with honors and as a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He played varsity soccer, was president of the Evangelical Students Fellowship, and tutored in biology.
Archie earned a medical degree at Columbia’s College of Physicians and Surgeons. He served as resident in surgery at University Hospital in Philadelphia and then in the Army Medical Corps as a captain. After the war, he spent time as an exchange fellow at McGill University.
In 1950, Archie became a medical missionary in India, where he was responsible for administration of two institutions as well as performing general thoracic surgery. He was a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
Archie then joined the Department of Surgery at the University of Washington. He returned to missionary medical work in Nepal, and later continued his missionary services in India at Miraj Medical Center.
Archie was an outstanding member of our class. His first wife, Huldah, died in 1999. He is survived by his wife, Valeria, whom he married in 2001; and sons Robert, Ronald, John, Peter, and James. The class extends sincere sympathy to them.
