Bill died May 2, 2010, in New York City.  

After graduating from Shady Side Academy, Bill followed his father, William Hague 1904, to Princeton. He majored in history, achieving departmental honors, and was a member of Triangle Club.

He studied at the University of Pittsburgh Law School before serving in the Navy from 1942 to 1946 as a lieutenant.

Much of Bill’s business career was spent with Condé Nast as editor-in-chief of House & Garden, a home remodeling and decorating magazine. He was also president of Your Home Inc., a real-estate development firm. Bill wrote 10 books in the design and architecture field for Doubleday and received the Dorothy Dawe Award for distinguished journalism coverage in home furnishings.

Bill’s interests and hobbies included architectural design and construction, crafts, creative writing, collecting art, and landscaping. According to his New York Times’ obituary, Bill “will be remembered for his encouragement, mentoring, sense of humor, and kind and thoughtful ways.”

Bill’s marriage ended in divorce. He is survived by his life partner, Emanuel Gambino Jr.; a niece and nephew; and seven great-nieces and great-nephews. To them, his classmates extend their sincere sympathies.
