John died Jan. 6, 2010.  

He was born in Brooklyn and graduated from Polytechnic Preparatory Country Day School before coming to Princeton. At Princeton he majored in politics, was associate editor of the Bric-a-Brac, and was on the freshman crew.

After Princeton he graduated from Harvard Law School. Later he joined the Navy as an ensign and was attached to convoy work in the North Atlantic. He was discharged as a lieutenant. After his naval career, John practiced law as a tax counselor and then was employed for 17 years with the American Petroleum Institute. He also worked in private and corporate law.

After his retirement at age 70, he spent many hours teaching and on boards of the Presbyterian Church, according to his devoted wife, Joan. Together they became parents of a son, John Randolph Kuhn Maguire.

To his dear wife, Joan; son John and his wife, Neringa, and their two sons, Lucas and Marcus, the class extends sincere sympathy.
