Bill died unexpectedly of a heart attack April 14, 2010, at his home in Boulder, Colo.
Born and raised in York, Pa., Bill came to Princeton from William Penn High School. At Princeton, he majored in politics, played rugby, and managed varsity lacrosse.
After Princeton and a brief teaching stint at York High School, Bill earned a law degree from Dickinson School of Law. In 1969 he moved to Boulder to begin his private practice of civil law. He represented Kenai Oil & Gas in Denver in many capacities and was an arbitrator for the National Association of Securities Dealers.
In his extracurricular life, Bill was active in the Boulder Rifle Club and the Conference on World Affairs. A staunch Republican, he had many personal interests, including reading, history (especially of the Civil War and World War II), fly-fishing, and, according to his obituary, “bow ties, gun collecting, meeting friends for morning coffee, and The New York Times’ crossword puzzle.”
Bill is survived by his daughter, Emily Long; son Benjamin; a grandson; and two nephews. We join them in mourning his passing.
