Bill died Sept. 1, 2009.

He was born in Windsor, Ontario, and lived in New York and Santa Cruz, Calif. He graduated from Curtis High School, where he was a class officer. At Princeton he majored in mathematics and won the William Bullitt Prize. His Princeton classmates referred to him as “the mathematical wizard.”

After college, Bill was employed with Equitable Life Assurance Society in New York. He served in the Army, where he rose to captain and was awarded the Bronze Star. While stationed in Hawaii he married Jeanne Adler, and in 1946 their child, Terry Scott, was born.

After his duties with the military Bill was a statistician employed in the government bond department of First Boston Corp. in New York. Both he and his wife served on the executive committee of a 19,000-member chapter of the Sierra Club.

To Bill’s family and friends, we extend sincere sympathy with our fond remembrances.
