Charlie Burke died Feb. 15, 2010.

Charlie entered Princeton from Richmond Hill High School in Kew Gardens, N.Y., and joined Cannon Club. He was president of the Princeton Engineering Society, president of the student chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers, and became vice president of Cannon before leaving for service as a navigator with the Navy, seeing combat in the Pacific. He was one of the engineers who received a degree in 1944, thus being among the first of our class to graduate.

Charlie earned a law degree from the University of Virginia. After brief practice with the law department of Westinghouse, he became a partner of the Pittsburgh firm of McCaan, Garland, Ridall & Burke.

He married Patricia “Patsy” Grable in 1952, and they both were active in community and civic projects in the Pittsburgh area. Charlie and Patsy raised two sons after losing their daughter in an automobile accident. In addition to his wife, Charlie is survived by his sons, Steven and Charles; five grandsons; and a granddaughter. The class expresses its sympathy to the family.
