Sam died Feb. 16, 2010, after living with a rare form of cancer for almost 11 years.

After Princeton, Sam spent two years in the Peace Corps in Nepal, a very formative experience for him. After graduating from Yale Law School in 1970, he practiced law in New York and Boston, and then changed careers to become an environmental regulator. Among his most satisfying professional experiences were his leadership of the MEPA unit (which implemented the Massachusetts Environmental Policy Act) for seven years, and his service as a board member of the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority for 10 years. Sam was a founding principal of Epsilon Associates, an environmental consulting firm in Maynard, Mass.

Sam loved working with rocks and wood, and he loved mountains and high places. He and his family took wonderful vacations to the American West, Nepal, and China, and spent many weekends in the woods or at his beloved house overlooking the ski slopes in Waitsfield, Vt.

Sam is survived by his wife, Susan Hall Mygatt; daughters Elizabeth, Jennifer, and Catherine; his brothers, Joe ’61 and Pete ’68; and sister Elizabeth Mygatt Nitschke. The class sends its sympathy to them.
