Doug McKay died June 12, 2010, in Wheeling, W.Va., his hometown for many years.

Doug prepared for college at the Kiskiminetas Springs School in Saltsburg, Pa. At Princeton he majored in politics and joined Key and Seal. After graduation he was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the anti-aircraft artillery and served in the Solomon Islands and the Philippines until the end of the war. He separated from the Army as a first lieutenant and promptly enrolled in the University of Virginia Law School, from which he graduated in 1949. He married Peggy Wallace in 1947.

Returning to Wheeling, Doug initiated a law practice that occupied him until his death 60 years later. Initially he practiced alone and then as an associate. In 1959 he formed his own firm. When his son Paul joined him in practice, the firm became known as McKay & McKay. Originally they specialized in non-adversarial law in the fields of probate and real estate. Ultimately, they moved on to litigation, taking two or three cases a year to trial. Both men relished the excitement of battles in the courtroom.

Doug was predeceased by Peggy and their son Wallace. He is survived by his sons Paul and John and six grandchildren. To them all, the class sends sympathy.
