Rick (also known as “Jake”) died peacefully April 7, 2010, at his home in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, after a two-year battle with ampulla of Vater cancer.

Rick attended Ramapo High School in Franklin Lakes, N.J., where he was a star athlete in baseball and captained the basketball team. He was offered a professional baseball contract but decided to pursue academics at Princeton. He majored in politics, was active in Orange Key, and joined Cannon Club, where he was a force in intramural athletics.

Rick began his professional career in the actuarial and securities fields, moving to Palo Alto, Calif., in the late 1960s. But his calling remained athletics, so he left the business world to become a tennis professional. He was the head tennis pro at Los Altos (Calif.) Country Club for over 20 years. His great love was helping develop the skills of his young players, many of whom became accomplished collegiate and tournament players, including reaching the US Open level. In 1997 Rick and his wife, Jean, retired to San Miguel, where he enjoyed playing golf (becoming a low-handicap player) and reading.

Rick is survived by Jean, his wife of 46 years; a son, Peter; a daughter, Julie Moller; three grandchildren; and his sister, Jill Cullen.
