Randy died Aug. 22, 2010, after a 15-year struggle with multiple myeloma, a bone-marrow cancer.

He came to Princeton from Mercersburg Academy and majored in biology. After graduating from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in 1960, Randy earned a master’s degree in obstetrics and gynecology from Temple University in 1964. After a two-year Army hitch, Randy joined an ob-gyn practice in Williamsport, Pa., remaining active in the group for more than 30 years. He also served terms as chief of staff at each of Williamsport’s two hospitals.

Randy once wrote that Professor Eric Goldman’s history course planted an interest in public service. In 1971, Randy ran for city council in Williamsport. Once elected, he displayed a remarkable ability to work constructively with political opponents. So rewarding were the results that the citizens re-elected him eight times — his 34 years being an unprecedented length of service in that city.

In 1959, Randy married Janet Walker. She died in 1994. In 1998 he married Mary Ann Schubert, his classmate in kindergarten. Besides Mary Ann he leaves three children, four stepchildren, seven grandchildren, a brother, and a sister. With them we share the loss of this outstanding classmate.
