Jim Harrington died Feb. 27, 2010.

Raised in Lucknow, India, Jim returned to the United States to complete high school in New York. He served in an Army field hospital in the European theater during World War II.

He married Anne Wilton in 1948. He earned a bachelor’s degree in engineering in 1949 and a master’s degree in engineering from Princeton in 1952. He worked for DuPont for 18 years and then became director of research and development with the J.D. Caulk Co. in Delaware.

Jim won two patents, published many papers, and was a recognized expert in his field. He founded the Journal of Plastic Film and Sheeting and edited it until 2010.

While director of exhibits at Philadelphia’s Franklin Institute, Jim had a production that was shown in India, where he was greeted by old friends including Bob Goheen ’40 *48, then America’s ambassador to India.

Jim became a Quaker in 1953 and was a very active one later in life. He helped to found a nonprofit corporation that developed interracial housing projects in Delaware.

Jim and Anne made many enduring ’47 friendships during their Princeton years. He was a loyal classmate and took pride that his son, Ian ’77, was a fourth-generation Tiger. We send our best wishes to Anne and the family.
