Lloyd, a resident of Green Valley, Ariz., and Rhinelander, Wis., died of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis March 13, 2010.
Born in Kansas City, Mo., Lloyd moved with his family to Kenilworth, Ill., and attended New Trier Township High School, where he swam and sang. He continued swimming at Princeton on the freshman swim team, and also taught swimming and lifesaving. He took his meals at Elm Club and majored in electrical engineering.
After graduation Lloyd signed on with Motorola, where he started in two-way radio design, then moved on to marketing and planning as a senior product planner. In 1962 he also signed on with Liz Allen, his wife of 47-plus years. While working at Motorola he attended the University of Chicago at night, earning an M.B.A. in 1967.
In 1985, Lloyd struck out on his own, starting a mergers and acquisitions business specializing in industrial electronics. From there he moved into marketing consulting. By the time of our 45th reunion he had mostly retired, although he gave a guest lecture annually at the University of Arizona on “Dynamics of Marketing Technical Products.” He continued to enjoy swimming, sailing, hiking, woodworking, and community service.
Lloyd is survived by Liz, to whom we have sent condolences.
