After a courageous nine-month battle with cancer, Bob died peacefully at home Aug. 6, 2010.

A lifelong New Orleanian, Bob was born on May 4, 1938, and was raised in the Garden District. He attended Deerfield Academy, where he was a student leader and athlete.

At Princeton, Bob was an All-American lacrosse player and captain of the team, president of Cottage Club, and an honors graduate in history. An avid musician, Bob sang first tenor with the Tigertones and played flamenco guitar.

Bob did graduate studies in journalism at UC, Berkeley and continuously honed his creative-writing skills. A voracious reader and prolific writer, he traveled extensively and sailed throughout the Caribbean and across the Atlantic Ocean.

In the early 1990s, Bob began making annual medical mission trips to Central America, using his fluency in Spanish to interpret for medical professionals. During one of these trips he met Dr. Margaret Devall, a plant ecologist, and was swept off his feet into a permanent and devoted union. He wrote a compelling piece about his life for our 50th-reunion yearbook.

Bob is survived by his wife; his brothers, R. King and David; five nephews; and many stepchildren and grandchildren. The class sends sincerest condolences to all the family.
