Andrew Linehan, an expert on wind power, died Jan. 8, 2010, of metastatic melanoma. He was 54.

Linehan received a bachelor’s degree from Reed College in 1978, and from 1979 to 1981 he was with the Peace Corps in Mauretania. He then came to the Woodrow Wilson School at Princeton, and graduated in 1984 with a master’s degree in public affairs and urban and regional planning.

Starting in 1984, Linehan worked for the Bonneville Power Administration, a Pacific Northwest public utility. In 1988, he joined the engineering firm CH2M Hill and by 2004 became its Portland area regional manager. His last career move was to PPM, a part of Scottish Power (later bought by Iberdrola Renewables), where he became director of wind-power permitting.

Linehan was a founding member of the American Wind and Wildlife Institute. In 2007, he was appointed to the federal advisory committee for wind power of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. This position enabled him to promote wildlife considerations into wind-power siting and operations.

Linehan is survived by Carl Snook, his partner of 20 years; his mother, Janice; a brother; and a sister.

Graduate memorials are prepared by the APGA.
