(Ghost Road Press) This novel follows the story of a history professor, Christopher Jefferson, who arrives in Portugal in 1974, at the start of the “Revolution of the Carnations,” when several citizens and members of the military attempted to overthrow a dictatorial regime. The story unfolds against a backdrop where both the United States and the Russians are seeking an outcome in their favor — a democracy for the former and a communist regime for the latter. All the while, the professor becomes increasingly entangled in the revolution and a romantic liaison with a teacher. Pratt is retired from Colorado State University and continues to write poetry and prose.
